Main Objective

The main objective of School-Hub is to support school divisions by providing high-quality graphic design and communication services, ensuring they have access to these resources even without a full-time, in-house team. The project aims to empower these divisions through the development of an ongoing learning Hub that offers inspiration, templates, and learning resources.

Problem Learners Will Be Solving

Learners involved in this project will be addressing the challenge of creating and delivering professional-grade design and communication resources to school divisions (via an online membership site). They will be solving problems related to:

1. Design Creation: Developing engaging and functional design templates and samples that can be used by school divisions for various communication needs.
2. Educational Resources: Creating tutorials and how-to guides to help users understand and execute common design and communication tasks.
3. Website Maintenance: Assisting with the creation and upkeep of a user-friendly, resource-rich website (on Wix).
4. Social Media Engagement: Producing content for Instagram to promote and educate users on effective design and communication strategies.

Expected Outcomes for Learners

By the end of the project, learners are expected to achieve the following outcomes:

1. Enhanced Design Skills: Improved proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop through practical application.
2. Portfolio Development: A more robust portfolio showcasing their ability to create professional and impactful design materials.
3. Experience in Communication: Gained experience in writing and creating communication materials, including social media content and instructional guides.
4. Website Management Skills: Basic skills in website design and maintenance using Wix.

Tasks Learners Will Need to Complete

Convert Existing Designs into Engaging In-Situ Images:

• Take pre-existing design materials and adapt them into visually engaging in-situ mock ups using supplied mock up backgrounds.

Build Graphic/Communication Templates:

• Develop customizable templates for graphic design and communication materials using tools such as Adobe InDesign, Canva, and Google Docs/Word.
• Ensure these templates are user-friendly and versatile for different types of communication needs.

Create How-Tos and Mini-Tutorials:

• Produce step-by-step guides and mini-tutorials addressing common design and communication tasks.
• Topics may include how to use specific design tools, create effective visual content, and best practices for communication within school environments.

Assist with Website Creation and Maintenance:

• Support the development and ongoing maintenance of the online membership Hub using Wix.

Develop Instagram Promotional/Educational Posts:

• Create content for Instagram that promotes the Hub and educates followers on design and communication strategies.
• This includes designing eye-catching graphics, writing engaging captions, and scheduling posts.

Collaborate with a Seasoned Visual Communication Professional:

• Work closely with a mentor to receive guidance, feedback, and support throughout the project.
• Participate in virtual check-ins to discuss progress, address challenges, and refine work based on feedback.

Mentorship—guidance throughout the process with tips and insights on best practices. Introduction to new/unfamiliar tools and programs. Support on how to utilize generative AI tools for optimizing outcomes while delivering a creative and quality project.

Access to existing work will be provided to use for mock-ups. inspiration, and templates.
